Ford reached production of one million cars at Craiova plant
Ford reached a production of one million cars at the plant in Craiova, 12 years after it manufactured its first vehicle in Romania, in 2009. Before the production of Puma started in 2019, other models were assembled in Craiova: Transit Connect, the B-Max, as well as the EcoSport model which is still produced there with Puma.
The 1 millionth car produced at the Craiova plant is a Puma ST Line model, in the color Desert Island Blue, powered by a 155 hp EcoBoost Hybrid engine.
Earlier this year, Ford confirmed that it would invest $ 300 million to build a new light commercial vehicle in 2023 at the Craiova plant, a model that will also benefit from a fully electric version that will debut in 2024. This will be the first fully electric volume model ever produced in Romania.
Ford’s total investment in its production operations in Romania is almost 2 billion USD since it took over the Craiova plant in 2008.
In recent years, significant investments have been made in the factory in Craiova; more than 600 robots have been installed to improve and streamline the processes of stamping, painting or assembling bodies and chassis. About 6,000 people work on the assembly lines of vehicles and engines of the Ford plant in Craiova.
