Belgian company ABEE will invest 1.4 billion euros in EV battery factory in Galati
A battery factory for electric cars will be built in Galati. The investment totaling 1.4 billion euros will be made by the Belgian company ABEE (Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering).
At the press conference to announce the investment, ABEE officials, the Belgian Prime Minister, the Romanian Minister of Economy, and the mayor of Galati were present.
The battery factory with an annual capacity of 22 GWh will be built on an area of 60 hectares in the Galati Free Zone and will be completed in 2026. According to official data, the investment will generate 8,000 jobs.
The Belgian company ABEE is also preparing a battery recycling plant in Galati, with a capacity of 50,000 tons per year, which will be built between 2028 and 2030.
“Our city has become more and more attractive for investors. We will have a battery factory for electric cars in Galati, an investment of 1.4 billion euros, which will ultimately generate around 8,000 jobs. It is about the largest investment in the sector in Romania, which will be made by the Belgian company Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering (ABEE).
It was not easy to bring this project to Galați because we had to fulfill several requests, and our city and the entire community in the southeast of Romania will have a lot to gain. Galati is on the economic map of the region, being closer to its goals, those of being a strategic gateway in the east of the European Union,” Ionut Pucheanu, mayor of Galati, said in a statement.
