Simona Almajan, NXP Semiconductors Romania: “We need to continue to focus on digital transformation to streamline product development flows”

“Currently, the software-defined vehicle market is worth 230 billion euros. Estimates show that in 2030 this software-defined vehicle market will reach over 1.2 trillion euros.
Despite the current challenges, there are estimates for substantial market growth. Both cars and smart homes need chips. The semiconductor market will continue to grow. The global chip market will reach a value of about 500-600 billion euros at the end of this year, with an estimate of 1.2 trillion in 2030,” Simona Almajan, Country Manager, NXP Semiconductors Romania said at Automotive R&D Conference organized by Automotive Today and The Diplomat-Bucharest.
Key statements:
- There are a number of challenges and needs, including artificial intelligence. The need for investment in AI leads to the expansion of the chip market and the creation of increasingly high-performance chips.
- Software-defined vehicles will continue to address the CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric) trends that we have talked about in the last 2-3 years.
- We increasingly expect that the cars of the future will offer the possibility of customizing functionalities through those subscriptions.
- Software-defined cars, compared to current cars, have more and more functionalities implemented in software. One advantage is related to costs, and the software is updated faster, and the cars will remain “fresh” with the help of over-the-air updates.
- There are many challenges and we continue to face challenges related to cybersecurity, but also those related to the integration of increasingly complex software. But we also have hope because the market is growing.
- All industries, not only the automotive sector, are taking steps towards digitalization, automation, Gen AI, etc. Artificial intelligence will help us face the labor shortage in the future, because the need for human resources will increase in the automotive industry.
- At the moment, we are facing the problem of a lack of labor to fulfill the projects that we could have and develop. That’s why we need to continue investing in Gen AI and generally focus on digital transformation programs so that we can streamline product development flows.
