Simona Almajan, NXP: “Automotive companies can make more communication efforts to attract women in this industry”
“I started my career 16 years ago as a software engineer at Motorola Freescale. I have never had problems working in a male-dominated environment. I started with software development and later I got to quality management because I wanted to become a manager,” Simona Almajan, Sr. Manager, Product Engineering and Quality teams, NXP said during the “Women Professionals In The Automotive Industry” conference.
“An opportunity arose and I took it. I entered the automotive business at Freescale Semiconductors. The business has grown, we have several hundred employees in Bucharest. I coordinate two teams, quality management and product engineering. I am motivated by the top technology and the fact that we work for the cars of the future. In my teams I have two women managers.
I believe that automotive companies can make more communication efforts to attract women in this industry. Technical knowledge is required for certain positions, but projects do not work without so-called cross-functions or sales-related jobs.”
