Ford Otosan inaugurates new battery production line at Craiova plant

Ford Otosan inaugurated a new battery production line at the factory in Craiova. The new assembly line will support the future production of electric vehicles at the plant.

Ford Otosan Craiova will start this year the production of electric versions of Ford Transit Courier, Ford Tourneo Courier, as well as Puma Gen-E models, as part of the 490-million-euro investment announced in 2022, when Ford Otosan took over the Craiova plant.

“Ford Otosan Craiova is one of the most modern and automated car production units in Europe and we are proud to be the first manufacturer in Romania to manufacture electric vehicles in the heart of Oltenia. The first deliveries are expected in the spring of 2025, and the electric models that our plant will soon produce will complement the current range of Ford models, playing a key role in the company’s electrification strategy at the European level,” said Fırat Elhüseyni, President Ford Otosan Romania.

Ford Otosan Romania currently produces the thermal versions of the Transit Courier, Tourneo Courier and Puma models. The factory in Craiova has over 6,600 employees.
