We are present in Romania with all three divisions: Paper, Packaging and Recycling. Looking forward to packaging division, we have two box plants: in Timisoara and Ghimbav and three service centers in Timisoara, Pitesti and Buftea. Since we launched our sustainability strategy in 2020, we have replaced over 19 million plastic pieces with fiber-based solutions,” Roxana Gita, Cluster Sales Manager, DS Smith Packaging Romania said during Automotive Forum 2024 organized by Automotive Today and The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“We create savings for our customers because packaging has the potential to increase sales, lower costs, manage risks, and contribute to a circular economy.
How we achieve this? Through our Pack Right Centres and Innovation processes. A hub of expertise and creativity where we bring inspiration from the drawing board to the factory floor.
The PRC offers creative product development, we design together with our customers and deliver the right packaging for their needs.
Our industrial packaging designers are specialized in heavy duty, sustainable packaging solutions that are designed to prevent damage and reduce cost at every stage of the supply cycle.
We have considerable experience in industrial processes. At our research centres we work with a range of compositions, flutings and treatments to cope in the most difficult environments.
For the automotive segment, we know which are the key drivers in the process of development: product protection, supply chain efficiency and optimization, packing line efficiency and sustainability.
We were the first in the industry to introduce Circular Design Metrics. We provide them for every package we design.
Optimizing the packaging size can bring significant savings. For one of our customers, we reduced the thickness of the packaging by just 1 mm and the result was reduced costs, reduced the number of transports by 17 percent, 20 percent more packaging is placed on 1 pallet, which means instead of 600 we can supply 720 pcs. and reduced CO2 emissions by 16 percent. Additional benefits are saving space and inventory movements, and the number of people involved.”
