Ford Otosan starts delivery of first electric vehicles made in Romania

Ford Otosan, one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in Europe, begins the delivery of the first electric vehicles made in Romania. Series production of the fully electric Puma Gen-E, E-Transit Courier and E-Tourneo Courier models has begun at Ford Otosan’s state-of-the-art Craiova plant, reinforcing Ford Otosan’s role as a strategic manufacturing hub for Ford in Europe.

The Ford Otosan plant in Romania is one of the most complex and innovative units within the Ford manufacturing ecosystem. The Craiova plant is currently the only one in Europe that produces both passenger cars and commercial vehicles on the same lines, in both internal combustion engine and electric versions.

To support the production of electric vehicles, Ford Otosan has invested in the localization of key components for electric vehicles, including the establishment of a new battery assembly line at the Craiova plant. Inaugurated last October, the assembly line is part of the broad investment strategy announced in 2022, when Ford Otosan officially acquired the Craiova plant.

Starting in 2022, Ford Otosan has made a total investment of 500 million euros to support the diversification of vehicle production at the Craiova plant. This investment has also contributed to the technological transformation of the Craiova plant, positioning it as one of the most advanced and flexible automotive production facilities in Europe.

Ford Otosan Romania currently produces the combustion and electric versions of the Ford Transit Courier, Tourneo Courier and Puma models, along with the 1.0 EcoBoost engine. The Craiova plant operates in three shifts in both the vehicle and engine production areas and currently employs over 6,600 people.
