Umit Batmaz, Automotive Industry Executive: “Romania has a lot of opportunities for the development and manufacturing of battery elements”

“We have reached an inflexion point for the human civilization, and the automotive industry is also impacted. The trends for the next 5-10 years will have an impact on all lives around the world, and the automotive industry will play its part.
The automotive industry is making use of its engineering power to develop batteries and related industries. All these technologies, from AI to augmented reality, are now integrated into the automotive industry, into manufacturing and development,” Umit Batmaz, Automotive Industry Executive said at Automotive R&D Conference organized by Automotive Today and The Diplomat-Bucharest.
Key statements:
- From the European Commission’s perspective, the automotive industry is responsible for the CO2 emissions for the entire cycle from mining to recycling. The industry needs to work on each of these supply chains elements. There are a lot of things to be done in these sectors and it will help us reduce the carbon emissions.
- The transformation of the automotive sector will have its consequences in every area of our daily lives. The labour force will also go through changes because some jobs will disappear and new jobs will appear. We have to think about the conversion of the labour force for new technologies which will need some upskilling of the existing labour force and changes in the university programs.
- Romania has a lot of opportunities for the development and manufacturing of battery elements. These components are supplied from Asia to Europe, so it’s a big opportunity for Romania to invest in this sector.
